Position Description (What you will do):
The Hockaday School seeks an enthusiastic and mission driven Director of Summer at Hockaday to provide visionary leadership, strategic planning, and day-to-day management of Hockaday’s comprehensive summer programs. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a dynamic portfolio of academic, enrichment, athletic, and specialty camps that align with Hockaday’s mission and uphold its standards of excellence. The Director ensures a safe, inclusive, and engaging experience for all participants while driving innovation, operational efficiency, and financial sustainability. Reporting to the Director of Auxiliary Programs, this position is a 12-month position with part-time work September through May and full-time work June through August.

- Design and oversee all facets of Summer at Hockaday, including day camps, specialty camps, and partnership programs
- Develop new offerings that expand program diversity, enhance participant experience, and appeal to a wide range of ages and interests
- Ensure all programs reflect Hockaday’s mission, uphold brand standards, and promote a safe, nurturing, and fun environment
- Evaluate program effectiveness through data analysis, surveys, and feedback to guide continuous growth and improvement
- Oversee daily operations of the summer programs, including scheduling, facilities usage, and logistics
- Manage registration, billing, and communication processes in coordination with the Director of Auxiliary Programs
- Coordinate with various departments, such as Security, Facilities, and Dining to ensure seamless program delivery
- Recruit, hire, train, and supervise summer staff, including teachers, camp counselors, and support personnel
- Foster a positive and collaborative team culture that reflects Hockaday’s values
- Participate in professional development opportunities for auxiliary and summer programs personnel
- Manage the summer program budget to achieve established revenue and enrollment goals
- Monitor financial performance, control expenses, and pursue new revenue-generating opportunities
- Collaborate with the Director of Auxiliary Programs on pricing structures and financial reporting
- Design and execute marketing strategies that promote Summer at Hockaday
- Develop compelling program descriptions, visuals, and outreach for digital and social media platforms
- Serve as the public face of Summer at Hockaday, maintaining strong relationships with families and the community
- Support other auxiliary initiatives as needed to enhance overall program quality and impact

- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Education, Business, or related field preferred
- 3-5 years of experience in program management, summer camps, after-school enrichment, or similar field
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to inspire and develop staff and build effecitve teams
- Strong financial acumen and ability to manage complex budgets
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and relationship skills
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with students, families, and colleagues
- A student-centered mindset, prioritizing safety, engagement, and growth
- Creative and strategic thinking in designing innovative programs
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through
- Proficiency with scheduling, registration platforms, and Microsoft tools

- Must have the ability to work in a school environment through satisfactory completion of all legally required and School-required background and screening checks and verifications, including criminal and sex offender background checks.

In this role, you will....
- Participate in all requisite School trainings prior to the start of the school, and throughout the School year.
- Attend required staff development and training sessions throughout the year
- Attend periodic in-service meetings
- Acknowledge receipt of the current Employee Handbook and are responsible for reviewing the contents and abiding by rules, policies and procedures stated in the Handbook or otherwise by the School
- Abide by Hockaday’s Code of Ethics and Conduct

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, including working at a computer
- Ability to frequently move about campus to observe programs, support staff, and interact with students and families
- Must be able to lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds (program materials, event supplies, or equipment) on occasion
- Ability to set up and break down program spaces, including moving tables, chairs, and light equipment
- Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions as programs and camps require
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and via electronic platforms
- Ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with students, fellow staff, and community members
